Snow Removal Procedures

The Town of Hot Sulphur Springs is dedicated to clearing the roads of snow to allow safe passage for the traveling public. This policy has been adopted by the Town in accordance with state and county guidelines and laws. 

  • The following locations will be plowed by town employees:

    • Emergency service routes, and the school bus route  
    • HSS fire station as well as the driveways of the volunteer fire department members
    • Town employees' driveways (essential workers)
    • Post Office parking area
    • Access to fire hydrants clear.  
    • Ingress/Egress to Highway 40
      • Sand will be applied sparingly to high traffic areas, steep hills, and icy spots as they occur, as well as ingress/egress to Highway 40

    Hot Sulphur Springs Town Residents Responsibilities

  • Removal of snow from driveways, alleys and the snow left in front of the driveway by the Town snowplows 
  • Residents may not place roll-off dumpsters in the right-of-way
  • Plowing snow across the right-of-way or into the right-of-way is not allowed.  The property owner or resident may be liable for any injury caused
  • For all general purposes, half of the snow on the road belongs to the property owners on either side of the road
  • Please do not allow children to play on the edge of the road or in the snow banks along the roadside
  • **Please do not stop operators while they are working and be mindful of plow equipment while driving.  If following a plow, please turn on your headlights; operators may have difficulty seeing you. PLOWS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER NORMAL TRAFFIC

Parking in the right-of-way (30 FT. FROM CENTER LINE OF ROAD OR STREET) is not permitted and may be subject to ticket and/or towing. If a vehicle is parked in the right-of-way and is damaged, the Town will NOT be responsible for damages.
